About Us
“A people powered council, creating a fairer, greener, safer future for all”
Southwark employs over 4,200 people. We are one of the largest employers in the borough, with a wide range of jobs, from Arborculturalists to Youth Workers. Each month we hold on-line all staff briefings led by our CEO, Althea Loderick (pictured) so there is a real sense of unity and all of us being in it together.
Southwark is home to a diverse community of over 320,000 residents who live in neighbourhoods ranging from Bermondsey and Rotherhithe on the south bank of the River Thames to Peckham, Camberwell and Dulwich. We’re also home to a thriving voluntary sector, world-class health institutions, and high-performing schools.
The council itself is one of the largest local authority social landlords in the UK and directly manages over 55,000 homes, which are lived in by nearly 40% of Southwark residents. But perhaps the most exciting fact about our council is that it’s powered by people like you.
Southwark is a values-led council and our beliefs – in the power of people and the vital importance of tackling inequality – define who we are. Being ‘People powered’ means that we recognise the people who work here, at the council and with our partners, and live in our communities are our greatest strength. That’s why collaboration – with residents, partners and colleagues – is at the heart of everything we do and in every decision we make in Southwark.
Our Strategy and Impact service sits at the heart of the Strategy and Communities department, where we report to one of the council’s Assistant Chief Executives. As a department, we work closely to develop the evidence used to underpin our strategic focus, set the Council’s key objectives, and communicate with our staff, residents and partners to support the fulfilment of our objectives. Strategy and Communities also leads our equalities and levelling up work, is responsible for our strategic relationships with partners and for effectively using the voice of Cabinet to celebrate our big wins.
To perform our role well, we need high energy, collaborative and thoughtful people who are proud of what they do and the difference they can make to the lives of the people and businesses of Southwark. your dedication to succeed in these roles you will need high energy, collaborative and thoughtful approaches. We want people who are proud of what they do and the difference they can make to the lives of the residents and businesses in Southwark. If you can show us your dedication to placing data, insight, evidence and residents’ experience at the heart of decision-making, and working through collaboration, innovation, and long-term partnerships to make a significant impact, then please take a look at our jobs and apply.
